LIGHTNESS
Lamp surface design, 2024
master in sensorial surface design
The idea of this project was to tell a story through the change of an object’s surface, using a different material to alter the experience and purpose of the selected object.
I chose to work with light, both as a noun, a source of illumination, and an adjective, light in weight or intensity.
pairing the light with soft, milky porcelain, replacing glass.
This choice allowed me to explore the relationship between light and material, investigating how light could alter porcelain's qualities, translucency, and reflective properties.

Porcelain’s strength, resilience, and delicate lightness offer timeless simplicity and versatility, creating varied aesthetics. The subtle light blue tones provide a sense of serenity.
The lamp’s minimalist silhouette lets the light and material take center stage, with the surface appearing opaque when off and revealing a gradient effect when on.

The key question in my design process was whether it’s possible for an object to evoke and reflect both cold and warm feelings.
